Mapping Arcadia: Isle Martin and the Topography of Place

01/07/2009 - 25/07/2009

An talla solais, Ullapool Visual Arts in partnership with the Isle Martin Trust is pleased to host an environmental public art installation by New York City based artist Alastair Noble, as an outreach project on Isle Martin. This project alludes to a short story by the Argentinean writer Jorge Luis Borges, 'On Exactitude of Science'. Noble’s project for Isle Martin is the second in a series of six worldwide projects.

The large scale land installation will involve the planting of 300 Rowan trees from 5 to 17 July 2009. This will be followed by an on-site poetic performance piece led by Noble on 18 July 2009 with a ferry from Ullapool providing transport for community and visitors. Noble will also lead a print workshop for community participants, 'Mapping the Imagination' on 4 July 2009 and the exhibition of the printed textiles from the workshop will run at an talla solais gallery from 6 to 18 July 2009.
