Dance takes to the road with touring performances
The social etiquette of Saturday nights at 'the dancing' and an exciting mixture of contemporary dance combined with poetry and aerial performance will be toured in Scotland, thanks to funding support from the Scottish Arts Council.

Scottish Arts Council hears sweet music in First Ministers announcement
The Scottish Art Council has welcomed the Scottish Executive’s announcement of £17.5 million made by First Minister Jack McConnell in North Lanarkshire today. Edinburgh Lecture: 'Language as Freedom?'
‘Language as Freedom?’ is the theme of a wide-ranging lecture to be delivered on Wednesday evening (26 February) by Scots-born poet, writer and translator Alastair Reid, now living in New York.

Broad range of writers to benefit from bursaries
Seventeen writers have been awarded bursaries ranging from £3,000 to £15,000 through the Scottish Arts Council Writers' and Playwrights' Bursaries scheme. The recipients include many of Scotland's acclaimed poets, playwrights and writers of fiction and non-fiction, as well as many new emergent talents.

On with the show at the Royal Lyceum
The upheaval of major refurbishment work caused hardly a flutter to performances at Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum Theatre. While audiences enjoyed a variety of shows, performers and staff mingled with workers in hard hats and painters in overalls during rehearsals as the buildings were given a behind-the-scenes facelift.

Drama companies get £55,000 for innovation and experimentation
Clowning, club culture and Chopin will feature in experimental new work developed by Scotland’s theatre companies with the support of £55,000 in seed funding from the Scottish Arts Council.

Usher Hall vision realised through Lottery funding
Edinburgh’s Usher Hall will be transformed into one of Europe’s leading concert halls by 2010, thanks to lottery grants of £2.8 million from the Scottish Arts Council and £1 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Scottish Arts Council support for the Creative Arts
The Scottish Arts Council's Creative Arts portfolio includes Literature, Crafts and the Visual Arts. The total portfolio budget will be £7.2m and includes £560,000 to implement strategic priorities of equality and accessibility, together with a further £1.1m of National Lottery funding for specific projects that also meet the priorities identified in artform strategies
