Wanted: local people for Scottish Arts Council committees

23/10/2001

The Scottish Arts Council is looking for people from all parts of Scotland to help advise Council on policy and funding decisions for the arts.

Applications are being invited for a number of vacancies on the Council’s artform and lottery Committees. These appointments are for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of re-appointment for a further two. Most committees meet around six times a year, usually at the Scottish Arts Council’s offices in Edinburgh. The posts are voluntary, but expenses will be reimbursed.

The Scottish Arts Council is the principal body responsible for the development and funding of the arts in Scotland, distributing around £54 million each year to artists, arts organisations, social inclusion partnerships, education bodies and many others. This includes funds both from the Scottish Executive and the National Lottery.

Committees are made up of people with a wide range of knowledge and experience in their particular artform, and play a vital role in advising Council and assessing funding applications.

"We are very keen to make sure that our Committees are as representative as possible, "said Tessa Jackson, Director of the Scottish Arts Council, ""and we would particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities, from minority ethnic communities, and from all parts of Scotland.

"Serving on Committees is often seen as something older people do, but I would also urge young people with relevant experience to consider applying."

The following Committees will have vacancies from April 2002 and, to meet particular needs, we invite applications from people with the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Crafts - selling and marketing crafts; crafts criticism; cultural diversity;
