Scottish Review of Books

08/11/2004

A new quality literary magazine, supported by the Scottish Arts Council, was launched this month aimed at promoting Scottish literature.

The new magazine, edited by Alan Taylor and published by Argyll and Birlinn Publishing, includes articles from leading literary commentators, reviews of recently published books as well as six new poems from Scotland’s Poet Laureate, Edwin Morgan.

Alan Taylor says: ‘Our aim with the new publication is to get people talking about issues surrounding Scottish literature and to challenge people’s perceptions about particular subjects.

‘At a time when Edinburgh has been recognised by UNESCO as the first World City of Literature and when Scotland’s writers are receiving both critical and popular acclaim, a magazine such as this is a timely and much needed addition to the literature landscape in Scotland.

The magazine is being distributed in the Sunday Herald while it will also be available in schools, museums, libraries and Ottakars stores across Scotland.
