Support towards the costs of publishing works of literary or cultural merit that may represent some financial risk is available to Scottish-based publishers.

The purpose of the fund is to offer block funding to publishers towards their publishing programme in the forthcoming year.

Fast-track Writing and Storytelling Fellowships

Applications are invited from suitable host organisations to employ writers or storytellers to develop their own work within specific communities. Fellows will work on their own projects and may also interact with specified groups within the host environment. Timescale: one month to three years.

Level of grants: Grants are available to cover 50% of the writer’s fee, which would typically be a minimum of £18,000 per annum or pro rata.

Fast-track Literature and Storytelling Development Workers

Applications for full-time Literature Development Worker posts are invited from suitable host organisations with a specific brief for literature, literacy and readership development. Minimum duration: one year.

Level of grants: Grants are available to cover postholder’s salary, which would typically be a minimum of £18,000 per annum or pro rata

Fast-track Translation

Support is available for publishers based outside the United Kingdom to help with the payment of translators’ fees for translating the work of Scottish writers.  Funding will be offered in the form of a grant which will normally not exceed 50% of the total translation fees, although in exceptional cases up to 90% of the fee can be covered.  We cannot fund a project which has already started or already taken place.

Level of grants: £100 – maximum of up to 90% of translation fee, subject to a limit of £5,000
