Capital Committee

The Capital Committee helps Council in the monitoring of its aims and objectives and the development of its work into the future on policy matters relating to capital development.

It has a close relationship to the Creative Arts and Performing Arts Committees and a similar remit but also a significant role to play in decision making for major capital grant applications.

To ensure a good match between the committees three members from each of the Performing and Creative Arts Committees sit on the Capital Committee.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Consideration of large grant applications over £250,000 for building projects and over £100,000 for equipment and artists’ work in public places projects up to a maximum of £1 million. Those applications above £1 million will first be considered by the Capital Committee and a recommendation made to the Council who will make the final decision.
  • Monitor the implementation of artform and cross Council strategies in relation to stated objectives and targets.
  • Monitor funding in relation to stated targets.
  • Relate and link strategies between Forums and Council
