Chaunticleer's Prayer

Whit gart ye gie
peacocks thon

About the poet

Ian McFadyen is an author of poems in Scots and English.  Raised in West Linton and a Graduate of Edinburgh University, his poems have been published in various literary magazines as well as the Sunday Times.

In 1978, he was short listed for the Sunday Times poetry competition.  His poems have been broadcast on BBC2, as has his script for BBC Radio schools programme on Sunset Song produced by Gerda Stevenson.  In 1984 he was the winner of the McCash prize for poetry in Scots.

McFadyen has been anthologised by the Scottish Association for Literary Studies in 'New Writing Scotland' in 1986 and by the Scottish Central Committee on the Curriculum in 'Scotland's Kist', an anothlogy of prose, poetry and drama.  He has also been anthologised in 'Variations on a New Song', a Holyrood poetry link scheme, published by the Scottish Poetry Library.

His poems appeared in 'Jorum', published by the Scottish Borders Arts Services, and his collection, 'Tom's Boat and other poems', published by Peebles Arts Festival is available frin the Scottish Poetry Library.

He featured on a slot in Michael Grieve's 'In Verse' programmes on Scotland's living poets for Scottish Television and has worked on several anthology and revue pieces for Tweed Theatre.

Ian McFadyen currently teaches and resides in Peebles.
