Opportunities

Artists-in-Berlin Programme

This is a residential programme for interational artists of all countries and ages. It was founded by the Ford Foundation in 1963 and was taken over by the German Academic Exhcange Service (DAAD) in 1964.

The aim of this programme is to offer a forum for cultural exhcange and artistic dialogue and to provide freedom for artistic work by endeavouring to liberate creativity from the dictates of the market.

Competitions and Awards

Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition 2010

The Nottingham International Piano Competition, presented by Clement Pianos is open to pianists born after 4 October 1980.

The first prize includes a Kawai piano (worth £16,500), a recording session to make a CD and gigs around the UK.

Deadline for entries: 31st March 2010.

NESTA Creative Enterprise Toolkit Launch

The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts is pleased to announce the launch of their free Creative Enterprise Toolkit resource for new creative business start-ups, which has been launched due to the success of Starter for 6, the business start-up programme for creative innovative start-ups in Scotland.

Specifically tailored for creative businesses, the toolkit is available both online and in print free of charge to Universities, enterprise organisations and creative entrepreneurs.

Events

UK Young Artists 2010

Artists from the UK aged 18-30 are invited to apply for this showcase. Those selected could also be selected to represent the UK at the XV edition of the Biennale.

Work should be new and can be from any art form. To register your interest and be notified when the call goes live please visit the UK Young Artists website.

Clore Leadership Programme Courses

The Clore Leadership Programme in partnership with the Cultural Leadership Programme, is offering one-day courses for:

  • Individuals who have recently been appointed as board members or experienced board members looking for a refresher on Wednesday 10 February 2010
  • Chairs and CEOs or Artistic Directors coming as a pair on Wednesday 17 March 2010

Both days will take place at the Whitechapel Gallery, London (9.30am - 4.30pm) and will cover issues such as artistic risk, financial information, legal responsibilities, strategic planning, diversity, recruitment and succession planning.

The application deadlines are: 22 January 2010 for new board members and 1 March 2010 for Chairs/CEOs.

This years Musiclearninglive! event will take place on February 25 & 26 at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. Apart from the wide range of events there is a significant input from Scottish presenters this year and the organisers would like to offer a 50% discount to YMI members/stakeholders

The Kevock Choir Alex Elrick Memorial Competition 2010

This is a new singing competition for singers aged between 14 and 18 on 1 January 2010 who are still at school. It will take place on Saturday 27 February 2010 at Lasswade High School. Competitors will be expected to sing two songs with live accompaniment, not to exceed 10 minutes in total and the competition will be judged by an independent adjudicator. The winner will receive the Alex Elrick Memorial Trophy and £1000 to help them continue to improve their singing.
