Glasgow International Jazz Festival is supported through the Scottish Arts Council’s Jazz Development Fund.
International performers include ‘Birth of the Cool’ alto sax player Lee Konitz; Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers; saxophonist Bobby Watson with his Live & Learn Sextet; leading avant garde trumpeter Tomasz Stanko; Nils Petter Molvaer seamlessly combining jazz, rock, hip hop, electronica and drum n' bass; rock and pop remixes with The Bad Plus; and West Coast jazz from Herb Geller.
John Surman and Howard Moody will be appearing at St Mary’s Cathedral; Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra with Satoko Fujii and Natsuki Tamura Finnish group Oddarrang; and young Dutch saxophonist Tineke Postma Quintet are also among the international performers.
UK performers are represented by some of the most exciting new bands around – ex Portishead now new jazz rockers The Blessing, BBC Jazz Award winners Neil Cowley Trio; Seb Rochford’s Polar Bear and Arnie Somogyi’s Ambulance.
The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra will be performing a tribute to Steely Dan and there will be a welcome return for Dennis Rollins’ Badbone.
There is a fine selection of singers, with the (former) queen of the beehive, Mari Wilson, BBC Jazz Award winner Ian Shaw, Sinatra-Basie with Todd Gordon, and the ever popular appeal of The Swingcats.
For children there’s the BBC Jazz Award winning Kidsamonium and there is even ‘Dinner music for a pack of Hungry Cannibals’, a celebration of the music of Raymond Scott, the man behind the classic Warner Brothers cartoons.

The City Inn Late Night Jazz Club will be inviting musicians to play in the hottest jam session in town, and Terry Hall of The Specials will be the DJ at the Sunday Social. |
Homegrown showcases the best of Scottish jazz with over 20 gigs including Ray Harris & The Fusion Experience, Kidsamonium, Laura Macdonald Quartet, Konrad Wiszniewski Quartet, Gina Rae & Sandy Wright, The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, Kevin Mackenzie Quartet, Ryan Quigley Sextet, and Dave Milligan Trio.
This year’s programme has been expanded from eight to sixteen bands and solo performers with the help of increased funding from the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund and with continued support from the PRS Foundation.
Programmers from international and UK Jazz Festivals, music venues, independent record labels, jazz press and journalists have been invited as delegates to experience the wealth of talent in Scottish jazz. Many musicians such as trumpeter Ryan Quigley, singer Gina Rae and guitarist Kevin Mackenzie will be taking full advantage of this platform by launching new CDs.
Homegrown will run from Friday 27 - Sunday 29 June with shows throughout all strands of the Festival, from concerts on the main stage at the Old Fruitmarket and at City Halls, to special performances preceding the Late Night Jazz Club, along with a full programme of gigs at fringe venues throughout the city. During the weekend, delegates will also be able to hear some of the international headline acts appearing at this year’s jazz festival.
