SXSW 2008
Background Showcasing Scotland
The Scottish Arts Council is supporting Scottish bands to showcase at South by South West in March.
SXSW (South by South West) is one of the largest music industry showcase and networking events in the world.

 |
The music event features hundreds of showcases from bands and artists from around the globe, taking place across over 50 stages in Austin, Texas from 12 – 16 March. |
SXSW also has interactive and film components which take place before over 7,000 music industry delegates from the international arena attend five days of music workshops, panel discussions with acclaimed industry speakers, an international trade fair and showcases.
Since 2004 the Scottish Arts Council has supported over 50 up and coming bands to attend SXSW at a crucial point in their musical careers.
The Scottish Arts Council will also form part of a coordinated UK presence, the British Music Embassy, at a dedicated venue in Austin, to help promote Scottish music to the international delegate audience.
Showcasing Scotland is a dedicated showcase of Scottish music presented by the Scottish Arts Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and GoEvents, in association with DF Concerts and PCL Promotions. The line-up this year features Sons and Daughters, Frightened Rabbit, The Dykeenies, Our Lunar Activities, Jyrojets and Make Model. The gig takes place on Friday 14 March at Latitude 30° in the heart of the Warehouse District of Austin and is compeered by BBC Radio Scotland DJ Vic Galloway.
The Scottish Arts Council’s hope in providing funding to attend SXSW is for the bands to be able to maximise every opportunity that the world’s greatest showcase event for contemporary rock and pop represents.
