All of the bands had the opportunity to perform to some of the 7,000 music industry delegates who attended the event. The organisers select the bands on the basis of their musical talent and proven readiness to sell themselves to an international market.

All of the Scottish bands selected to perform were given funding by the Scottish Arts Council to assist with the cost of attending. Without this many of the bands would have struggled to raise the finances needed. |
This year's acts will be hoping to experience the same success as the 13 Scottish bands who attended last year. Among them was Mercury Music Prize winner Franz Ferdinand. They went on to receive critical acclaim in the US being named as the most influential band of 2004 by Spin, the US music magazine.
