On 10 and 11 September 2005, Scotland's newest venue opens with Come Away In, a free community weekend.  It'll be packed with activities like:

  • music
  • theatre
  • street entertainment
  • storytelling
  • drumming
  • video jockeying
  • films
  • fun workshops

People taking part include Scottish opera star Frances McAfferty, music outfit Den Collective, Kinross and District Pipe Band, Tartan Dholis, Beat That, Vocal Fusion and many more.

It’s a showcase for local talent too; they'll be featuring some fabulous local community projects which have involved schools, senior residents, and youngsters from across the city.

It’s also the first chance for the people of Perth and further afield to see and experience this new venue.

Gala weekend

Friday 16 September kicks off the much anticipated Gala Launch Weekend, where the concert hall will showcase some of the best national, international and local talent.

Composer Craig Armstrong; Photo: Craig Armstrong and Horsecross The Friday launch sees the Royal Scottish National Orchestra perform a unique commission by Bafta award-winning composer Craig Armstrong, complemented with wonderful visuals by artists Dalziel & Scullion.

The hall shows off the best of Perthshire’s musical talent on Saturday evening with Pearls of the Tay. This one-off event will showcase Perthshire’s traditional music talent and will explore the links between Scottish and global music.

With musicians from Mali, India, Italy and Australia along with a whole host of local talent, you’ll not want to miss this amazing mix of musical backgrounds, cultures and styles.

The gala weekend is brought to a close on Sunday 18 September with rock band Belle and Sebastian headlining. Voted best Scottish band of all time in The List last year, Belle and Sebastian are definitely one of the most stirring sounds and sights the country has ever produced.

Forthcoming acts at Perth Concert Hall include:
