Buckhaven and Methill Brass Band

Tuba player Buckhaven and Methill Brass Band, Photo: Douglas Robertson Supported by the National Lottery through the Scottish Arts Council, Buckhaven and Methil Brass Band was awarded £24,000 in April 2004 towards the cost of purchasing a new set of instruments. Their current instrument stock was limiting the quality of their performances and also their ability to expand, particularly into the youth sector.

The band is well established with a long history of Brass Band history.  Buckhaven and Methil Miners Brass Band (formerly Buckhaven Town Band) was founded in 1905 and amalgamated with Wellesley Colliery in 1976. It then became Buckhaven and Methil Miners Brass Band and is based within the Fife region.

The band’s aim is to ‘advance the education of the public  by promoting and encouraging brass band music, to benefit the community through public performances and displays, to retain the heritage of the miners brass bands through providing free tuition and use of instruments to members.’ Buckhaven and Methill Brass Band, Photo: Douglas Robertson

The Band is based within a socially deprived area of Fife with low incomes and youth problems.

Supported by the National Lottery through the Scottish Arts Council.
