Launched in 1989, the Scottish Storytelling Festival is an annual focus for the celebration and development of oral storytelling as an artform. |

This Year
The central element for 2007 will be Scottish and African cultures, and will bring together central African oral traditions and Highland lore and legend. The themes that will be explored include tradition and artistic culture, migration and social change, ancient roots and modern justive, and will celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity in Scotland.
The Festival provides a varied programme of live artform events, including music, literature, visual arts and workshops and training. All of these events focus upon the oldest performance art and tradition of all, Storytelling. The Scottish and African theme will be specifically focussing on the Highlands of Scotland and Lowlands of Africa, the global renaissance of storytelling and ancient cultural roots and modern injustice.
Events this year include an Afo-Scottish ceilidh, a series of Highland legacy stories, an Edinburgh Castle story tourand African market and a Halloween Night special from the Guid Crack Club!

There will also be tie ins with:
- Black History Month
- 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery
- Scotland's Year of Highland Culture
- stop climate chaos
- parallel film festival.

In addition, there will be events in Glasgow, in partnership with The Village Storytelling Centre and Glasgow Storytellers. Events include; Africa: A Crucible of Faiths, Africa Night: Storytelling Ceilidh, and Storytelling in the Kibble. |
