East Renfrewshire Storytelling Festival

The second East Renfrewshire Storytelling Festival, funded by the Scottish Arts Council and East Renfrewshire Council, ran from 30 January until 17 February 2006. |
The festival aimed to celebrate the arts of storytelling and to remind people of the importance of oral communication. A varied programme was put together to reach out to all parts of the community.
Storytelling in East Renfrewshire schools has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, and during this year's festival there was an increased number of events taking place in schools and libraries. Funding has allowed East Renfrewshire Council's education department to develop new storytelling resources for use in primary schools.
Mini festivals took place in eleven schools, with a residency from a professional storyteller who organised their own additional events during the three week festival. Included in these events were story gathering, book exchanges, the 'Everyone's a Storyteller' class challenge and visits from members of the community who had their own fascinating stories to tell.

There was something for everyone to enjoy at this year's festival, from nursery to grown ups.
Even commuters were able to enjoy a storytelling session on a train, and some new events were added this year, such as a poem and pints session in local pubs and a change to learn about the history of Rouken Glen Park. |

The festival featured storytellers from all over the UK as well as from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
