“Gaelic literature as it ought to be!” Ronald Black, The Scotsman Newspaper, 2 July 2004
“This writer displays the gifts of a true storyteller” Aonghas MacNeacail, The Herald, 2 August 2004 |
Tocasaid 'Ain Tuirc is a marvellous collection of new short stories by this London-based writer. Gillies, originally from Ness on the Isle of Lewis, has been resident in London for a number of years. His last work - Thall 's A-Bhos (1991) with fellow Leodhasach Calum Greum - was highly acclaimed. Innovative and imaginative in its scope, it featured the short stories of writers from around the world, including authors from Scotland, Ireland, Argentina, Europe and the States, translated into Gaelic for the first time. Gillies' new work is 100% his own, and promises to make a valuable contribution to the Ur-Sgeul series of new Gaelic fiction. The stories are humorous, quirky and, above all, highly entertaining.
