A summer of festivals 2006
Scotland is geared up for a cultural explosion as summer festivals begin across the nation. Each year some of the world’s best artists arrive to entertain audiences in the capital city. However festival fun is not limited to Edinburgh. There are a range of exciting community, arts and music festivals planned across Scotland – from the Scottish Borders to Skye, the Western Isles to Aberdeen.

The Scottish Arts Council supports world-class festivals in Scotland throughout the year (check out the festivals features page to read more). This summer will be no different as thousands of visitors flock to see and experience the tremendous variety of national and international talent on offer.
The Scottish Arts Council spends more than £3 million a year to support festivals ranging from the major Edinburgh festivals (see Edinburgh festivals) to a variety of smaller events across the country (see highlights of festivals across Scotland). Festivals offer a unique chance for audiences to see and hear established artists as well as discover new or previously unheard of talents.
