Spectacular Vernacular
Spectacular Vernacular, the Stirling project, brings together formal and informal education sectors with cultural providers and artists to explore local 'flavours of Scots language', demonstrating the vibrancy and dynamism of colloquiallisms in speech and prose. The resulting 'text' becoming a stimulus to be further developed through a variety of artforms - thus raising the profile and appreciation of localised vernacular language and culture.
A fundamental objective of the project, which supports established national initiatives such as Class Moves, Story Makers and Masterworks, is the creative consolidation and development of existing schools and community partnerships. It also builds new collaborations across the Council Libraries, Heritage and Cultural Services, Community Learning, Planning, Environmental and Technical Services, national bodies including Scottish Natural Heritage, Historic Scotland, Civic Trust and Forest Enterprise also figure in the partnerships. The outcomes of the project will include animation works, pupil designed series of postcards, musical compositions, dance performances, photographic work and a 'new words' dictionary.
