The Snow Queen set to enchant children this December

Beloved Tale
Magical Experience
Booking Information

The Snow Queen will cast her frosty spell this festive season for the annual Christmas show at the Arches, Glasgow.

The magical tale by Hans Christian Andersen, and directed by Arches Regular Al Seed, opens at the celebrated multi-arts venue on Wednesday 3 December 2008. The show will be brought to life in the unique style of the Arches with stunning visual effects, live music, puppetry and atmospheric performances.

Hans Christian Anderson's Beloved Tale re-told

The Snow Queen is the story of Gerda who must rescue her best friend Kay after he is turned into a cold and spiteful little boy after falling victim to the splinters of the evil troll mirror. When he is whisked away to the merciless Snow Queen’s ice palace on a glittering sleigh pulled by giant swans, Gerda is determined to rescue her dear friend.

Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen

Her adventurous mission takes her to magical lands and leads to encounters with many famous characters from other fairy tales. Time is short, however, as up in the mountain Kay’s heart is turning into a cold lump of ice and winter is settling in his bones. Gerda must find him and melt his wintery heart to bring spring and sunshine back to their lives.

A Magical experience for children and the child inside us all

Held in a small, intimate space, the performance is extra special for younger children as it allows them the opportunity to interact with the show and see the costumes and drama up close.

For this special Arches adaptation of The Snow Queen, actress Morag Stark will play The Snow Queen, Charlene Boyd stars as Gerda, Joe Arkley plays Kay and Brian Conaghan will perform the troll and cameo parts.

The Snow Queen

This re-telling of the wonderful children’s classic has been adapted for the stage by Arches regular Megan Barker (Pit). Costume and set design is by Ruth Webster.

This Christmas, bring all the family to this most wonderfully dark, imaginative and heart-warming performance which will leave young and old alike gasping with wonder and excitement. Many dates are already sold out so book now to avoid disappointment!
