Theatre Objektiv
Ed Robson, Artistic Co-Director of Edinburgh based Theatre Objektiv describes the company as leaders in new Scottish theatre, making contemporary performance work which innovates in dramatic and theatrical form.
'Working on a project model, we develop our work collaboratively with core teams of artists brought together specifically to engage with the material and process at hand. Sometimes, our work is produced for the stage, sometimes for found spaces, sometimes just for ourselves, but often working together in a small (usually cold and damp) rooms trying out ideas in exploring drama, theatre and performance forms.
Much of our work is motivated by an interest in the work of other artists and revolves around an exploration of the question: what does it mean to make theatre in Scotland at the start of the 21st century?

We are interested in exploring who 'we' are, collectively, at this point in time. Frequently, we find ourselves working through what might be called Scottish and European themes. We have a special affinity for the work of Tadeusz Kantor and cricot2. This affinity inspires us to ask similar questions of ourselves, in our own time. We recognise the importance of his work not to copy, but to be inspired'. |
Theatre Objektiv have received support for projects by the Scottish Arts Council, and receive commissions for other projects from a range of sources, including Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Fund, City of Edinburgh Council and charitable trusts.
Theatre Objektiv were awarded project funding through the Scottish Arts Council to tour their newest visual theatre production across Scotland. They premiered How to Kill (Your Lover) at the Traverse Theatre to sell out audiences and critical acclaim.
| Inspired by the work of poet Pablo Neruda and visual artist Bruce Nauman, How To Kill investigates the intensity inside that most special of moments – falling in love… |

 |
| On a street with three dangerous dogs, a window lies open…behind the orange curtain, two lovers try to reassemble their relationship (batteries not included) using deliberately disputed stories, half-discarded memories and forgotten photographs. When there’s nothing left to say, maybe there is only one thing left to try… |
With Objektiv’s unique sense of visual style and more than a post-modern sense of comic irony in deconstructing the romantic-comedy structure, this is surreal and satirical modern theatre. Objektiv invite you into the hidden corners of a dumbed down and dressed up 21st century relationship - complete with all the passions and destructions anyone who has ever been in love knows so well.
