Lung Ha's Monster's Tears

Lung Ha's Monster's Tears on tour summer 2006

Exciting times ahead for Lung Ha’s Theatre Company

Perhaps, though, the most exciting development is that the 2006 tour of Monster's Tears is being directed by Lung Ha’s company member John Edgar.

Continuing from the end of June to early July 2006, the re-staging of Monster's Tears tours to the Borders and Fife as well as a performance in Gateshead.

This small-scale tour represents the consolidation of Lung Ha’s Theatre Company’s aim to produce at least two plays per year – one being the Full Company production, for all 35 Company Members, and the other a small scale touring production for typically four to six actors.  The small-scale touring production aims to cover most of Scotland over a three year cycle.  In another development the Company is planning to stage the Full Company production in Glasgow as well as Edinburgh from 2007.

Lung Ha's Apprentice Director scheme

In the last year the Company started an Apprentice Director scheme whereby a Company Member is given the chance to direct a production with the support of Clark Crystal, Lung Ha’s Artistic Director.  It is hoped that this scheme will be able to be carried forward for the foreseeable future and that many new and talented directors from within the Company will be given the opportunity to establish and sharpen their skills.  Monster's Tears is the first production under the scheme.

John has been with Lung Ha's Theatre Company since 1994 and has appeared in 12 original productions for the stage.  Indeed John was in the original production of Monster's Tears that toured in summer 2005.  In his time at Lung Ha's John has received training as a workshop leader and has led workshops both with the Company and as part of outreach work on tour.

Monster's Tears

A monster is on the loose.  Branded “angry and dangerous” but really “lost and isolated” he wanders alone.  Then a beautiful young woman falls for his charms… Will their love be allowed to grow in a world of suspicion, fear and prejudice? Inspired by the great Victorian horror novels and through great performances, delightful music and movement, Monster's Tears promises to touch your heart.

Monster's Tears has been written by John Binnie and devised by the Company.  Lung Ha’s Theatre Company is ‘one of Scotland’s foremost theatre companies for adults with learning disabilities’.

Visit Lung Ha’s website for performance dates.  Please note that Monster's Tears is not recommended for those under six.
