Giant Theatre: The Puzzle
Giant: creative adventures for all kids, is a Glasgow-based professional children's arts development organisation. It has been producing creative adventures for three to 11 year olds and their families since 1989.
Giant’s team are committed to working in inclusive arts. Giant define this to mean working with children of all kinds of abilities, so everybody can engage in the creative process in the same space and at the same time as their peers.
Since its beginnings the company has produced its own work as well as programming different events for other people. Over the years, the style of the work produced has changed to be more inclusive: from the venues it works in, to the style of work it delivers. This involves research and development of different ways of working, particularly within its two main areas of artform development: Theatre Arts and Visual Arts.
Giant’s work employs more intense use of all the senses and includes: devising shows which enable a high level of interaction to take place between the performer and the audience; developing sensory lighting in shows and employing multi-sensory techniques in visual arts workshops; using aromatherapy both in performance and workshops; integrating Makaton communication system in performance and as an aid in workshops, and finally developing the content, timing and structure of our programme to embrace the diversity of its audience.
Building and knocking down, dressing and undressing, using interactive light, sound, scent and images – two performers will take you on an adventure of the imagination.
Giant Theatre continues to develop unusual, charming and satisfying creative experiences for all children with this new theatre and animation adventure inspired by children’s soft playgrounds and the ever changing nature of play.
The Puzzle is a devised piece of theatre in which the audience will be seated right next to the action in a specially created soft play environment which is part of the set.
| 'Two girls discover a playground - a soft play world to discover and explore. They tentatively begin to play - building and knocking down structures. Quickly they realize that this is no ordinary playground as the worlds of their imaginations are animated before their eyes'. |
