About Nederlands Dans Theater
|
Nederlands Dans Theater has been one of the leading dance companies worldwide since it began in 1959. Although all its dancers have been classically trained, it is modern dance rather than ballet that Nederlands Dans Theater engages in, a the highest international level. Nederlands Dans Theater comprises two ensembles representing two generations of dancers; from budding talent starting their career in Nederlands Dans Theater 2 to full bloom in Nederlands Dans Theater 1. | |
The Collection of Works
|
Sleight of Hand
Choreography by Lightfoot Leon
Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon use and translate elements from the professional and personal lives of the young dancers, who are nearing the end of adolescence. This produces a fascinating union between the professional and personal life, between dancer and choreographer.

Dream Play Choreography by Johan Inger
With Dream Play Johan Inger created an abstract yet narrative ballet set to Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps. He gives a new perspective to the heavily charged story of the ritual spring sacrifice by reducing it to a daydream inspired by a fleeting encounter between the sexes. what follows the meeting is a wish-fulfillment dream, an erotic and sometimes aggression-tinged game for four men and two women, in which the dancers occasionally have rough-handed contact with the inventive stage set. Inger's earthy, expressive movements fit wonderfully with Stravinsky's raw sounds.
Mammatus
Choreography by Medhi Walersski
With Mammatus Medhi Walerski is making his debut as choreographer. His creation stands for an associative experience rather than for an explicit narrative. Mammatus is like an interspace, a space between one's individual perception and the quest for something beyond this inner worlds, out in the distance. A quest with no obvious destination, where the dancers thread their way, searching, staring at something far away, groping for something to hold on to, always on the way. |
