errol white dance - Three Works

Touring Scotland in June 2009

In June 2008 Errol White received project funding from the Scottish Arts Council to set up a new company 'errol white dance' and to create and tour the Three Works trilogy.

After a year in development, errol white dance is touring Scotland in June 2009, with a preview performance in Edinburgh at the Traverse Theatre on 5 June and a premiere performance the following day on 6 June.

errol white dance seeks to be an articulate and committed ensemble, producing unique dance works of high quality, with emphasis on authentic movement vocabulary and how the vocabulary of the body can be used as an abstract language.

About Three Works

Three Works is a study of identity and human vulnerability through the expression of the body. The show is accompanied by a sound score created by Portuguese composer Tiago Cerqueria and aims to question how we relate to tothers, works of art and to ourselves.

Errol White produces work with an emphasis on how the body is used as an abstract language to engage and connect emotionally without the need to prescribe a conventional narrative, allowing the audience to shift from dark to light exploring the emotional landscape of their own life.

Having performed internationally as a dancer for a number of years, Errol White has worked alongside many important directors and choreographers, who have provided him with many unique experiences that have helped to inform his own choreographic practice.

In 2002, he was awarded the Critics Award for the best male performer by Dance Europe magazine in addition to the Marion North mentoring award for choreography, and more recently, the Lisa Ullman Travelling Scholarship Award.

Errol has continued his own artistic and choreographic development alongside his earlier achievements, and has had informal opportunities to explore his own choreographic understanding whilst working as a guest lecturer in many educational settigns throughout the UK. He has also led choreographic residencies, workshops and technique classes for professional companies.
