Bodycurrents Dance Partnership

Neptune's Revelry, Sunday 25 April

The Bodycurrents project is funded by the Scottish Arts Council Inspire Fund, Eden Court, The Highland Council, plan B Dance company, Highland and Cairngorm Leader and The Robertson Trust.

Take part in a unique dance experience in the Scottish Highlands...

What is Bodycurrents?

Bodycurrents is a dance-based series of spectacular performance and development programmes that will inspire those participating in it and those who see it, to maintain and extend an interest in dance. This new dance project will catalyse and coordinate dance performances and development programmes in four Highland communities using a wide range of stimulating and imaginative opportunities.

The Highland Communities Involved

The four Highland communities involved in the Bodycurrents project are:

  • Caithness
  • Skye & Lochalsh
  • Badenoch & Strathspey
  • Lochaber

Each area will host a team of two Dance Catalysts, specialising in community dance, for a nine month residency. The Dance Catalysts, in consultation with the local communities, will develop a series of regular classes, workshops and training events in dance that will attract and appeal to a wide range of interests, ages and abilities and will be inclusive at all levels.

The first six months of each residency culminates in a spectacular outdoor dance performance event featuring performances by community and social groups that have evolved during the project.

WATER is the theme of Bodycurrents...

Our experience of it, awareness of it, and reliance on it in many different ways; how individuals and communities use water, react to it and think about it in economic, social, environmental and cultural terms. Water has always been a shaping force, a means of transport, a source of food and power.
